About Stark County Bicycle Club

Formed in 1968, the Stark County Bicycle Club (the “SCBC”) is a not-for-profit, fraternal organization located in Canton, Ohio.  The SCBC is primarily an on-road cycling Club, however, trail / towpath rides are offered as well.  Not only does the SCBC boast the finest ride schedule in all of Ohio, but the Club takes its community involvement seriously, offering safety classes for youngsters and volunteering at various community events such as the Canalway Bicycle Poker Run benefiting the Massillon Area Greenways, Inc. (MAGI) and the annual North Canton Kid’s Triathlon. 

OUR MISSION

The mission of the Stark County Bicycle Club is to promote the general interest of cycling in all its phases; to encourage and facilitate touring, racing, and cycling outings; to defend and protect the rights of cyclists; to secure a better understanding and recognition of the need for safer riding conditions;to encourage the allocation of facilities for cycling on public lands; to cooperate with the public authorities in the observance of all traffic regulations; and to advocate the recognition of the bicycle as a vehicle for pleasure, health, and economic transportation. The Stark County Bicycle Club maintains affiliations with the League of American Bicyclists, Adventure Cycling Association, the Ohio Bicycle Federation, and USA Cycling.

SCBC Membership Benefits

  • Newsletter:

    Members receive an online newsletter with club activities, cycling related articles, monthly ride schedule and Local Bike Shop's advertisements

  • Club Activites:

    SCBC holds a Summer Picnic, an Oktoberfest picnic and an annual Awards Banquet where members receive awards, prizes and free stuff.

  • Ride Maps:

    Members are encouraged to download turn by turn directions from the new RWGPS program to their Garmin or smart phone.

  • Ride with GPS:

    All SCBC members have access to premium navigation features on all club routes and events.

  • Tours:

    SCBC offers tours to several out of state locations during the year available to club members.

  • Classified Ads:

    Members may post cycling related items free of charge in the club newsletter

  • Mileage Stats:

    Miles are tracked on Ride With GPS for members who choose to join the various challenges offered.

  • Community Volunteer Support:

    SCBC supports the local community through Kids Triathlon, Bicycle Poker Run, charitable events, and financial support to local bike projects.

  • Monthly Schedule:

    Monthly schedule of rides offering a large number of rides.

  • Monthly Meetings:

    Monthly meetings that feature a program of interest to bicyclists.

  • Website:

    Information for members on upcoming events, PHOTOS TAB and links to cycling activities.

  • Facebook:

    SCBC Facebook Group with information about rides/cancellations, activities and events.

  • Insurance:

    Members, officers and ride leaders are covered by secondary insurance that the club provides in case of accident.

  • Mentoring:

    Improves cycling skills by being mentored during rides and observing more experienced riders

  • Motivation:

    Members are encouraged to ride through all all four seasons in northeast Ohio

  • Dedicated Ride Leaders:

    Ride leaders plan and conduct rides, offer tips on safe riding, encourage members and help when you experience a mechanical breakdown.

  • Safety in numbers:

    Motorists more easily see a group of riders.

  • Social Time:

    Meeting active people who enjoy the outdoors and the camaraderie that comes from shared experiences. Riders often meet for coffee after rides.

  • Local Bike Shop Discounts:

    Many local bicycle shops offer a 10% discount to SCBC members.

Monthly Newsletter

SCBC publishes, The Spokin' Word, the Club's monthly electronic newsletter. Editor: Dave Cardarella. Deadline to submit articles is the 10th of the month. Articles, comments, and suggestions should be directed to: Dave Cardarella at davecardarella@gmail.com

Membership Meetings

Membership meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month, at an announced location. Join us for our next meeting!
